Cookbook News, NOT to be missed giveaways & thirst quenching drinks for the dog days of Summer
Amazing pre order offers for our latest cookbook, Market Newsflash & tasty Summer drink recipes
Brief note on “dog days of Summer” for those who may not know the saying. It’s a term used for the hot days right smack in the middle of Summer. Nope, it has nothing to do with any actual dogs. But it does have to do with Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation which is often referred to as “the dog star” because of it’s representation of one of Orion’s hunting dogs. To the Greeks and the Romans, the “dog days” occurred when Sirius appears to rise alongside the sun (in late July in the Northern Hemisphere). They believed the heat from those two stars is what made those days (usually late July into August) the hottest of the year. And that is your brief history lesson on where “dog days of Summer” came from!

News from UK side of the Pond
What a full-on week. Our cookbook has dominated most of my working hours, but a couple of exciting things to tell you about.
Last Saturday at Great Malvern Food Festival, I caught up with the lovely Katy Johnson who has her own podcast “Shackbaggerly”. Yes, a new word to my vocabulary too, but if you are from Lincolnshire, like Katy, you may understand. I was interviewed for this week’s podcast which has already landed. Strange to be on the other side of the microphone, but really enjoyed it.
Please do listen, if you like your food, you should like this!

Those following the progress of my son’s musical (?) career, I am pleased to announce that the Thylacine EP is now on Spotify!!! WARNING: If you are of a sensitive nature, do not listen as it is what I call “Angry Music”, which is strange, because he isn’t in the least bit “Angry”. If you or anybody you like enjoys a bit of metal in your lives, listen in. They are booking gigs for next year and hope to have an LP by then.
Thylacine EP - only for the brave!
Foodie Friends did a podcast last Monday and we also went live on Instagram. It is the plan to do a live on Myrtle’s Instagram page next week – ahhhhhh, are you picking up the slight air of panic? I’ve never lead a live on Instagram before and I fear being left on there 7 hours later, trying to find the “STOP” button.
Starting to ramp up my thoughts as to where to take Lisa during her visit to the UK in August. Obviously I want to showcase my beautiful part of the world while we are on our promotion trail for the new book. If you have any inspired ideas, please let me know!
When this lands, I will be making a supply of my gourmet sausage rolls to take to a Farmers Market on Saturday. They are so so popular, - yup, just going to say it, they are mighty fine sausage rolls!!!! The fantastic news is that I am sharing the recipe in the new cookbook, The Foodies Table.
NEWSFLASH
This could only happen in the UK in the middle of summer! Saturday 15th July - Malvern Farmers Market date, we have a severe weather warning. Rain and dangerous winds, therefore we are decamping and moving our market to the rooms at LYTTLETON WELL, the buildings adjacent to our usual site. Please spread the word and come support your small business owners.
NEWS FROM THE US SIDE OF THE POND
I’ll keep my bit super short and sweet this week. Honestly, I’d probably bore you to tears if I shared all the details of these last few days. I’ve been glued to my computer screen doing final edits, setting up Shopify (ooooopppphhh that was tricky!!), taking care of a sick pup (she did something to her dew claw, so now she’s in a cone for 2 weeks) and a sick child.
BUT……..I DO have Taylor Swift coming up next weekend and I can’t WAIT!!!! My outfit is inspired by Fearless, so there’s lots of gold sparkles, gold glitter for my hair and I might even do gold sparkly nail polish. I’m going with my daughter and TS concerts have been our “thing” since Red. My parents HATED the music I listened to when I was my daughter’s age…….granted, I was very into Metallica, ACDC and Guns and Roses, so I kind of get that. I love that my daughter and I can chat about Taylor Swift, sing along in the car together (literally the whole road trip coming home from college), share funny Tik Toks and go off on tangents about TS’s love life. It’s honestly how I survived her teen years. When there was nothing we could agree on, we had Taylor Swift.
If you’ve got a heatwave going on, or are craving some seriously delicious thirst quenchers…………
